Ward councillor shot to dead in Patna

A 57-year-old ward councilor was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in the vegetable market under Barh police station in Patna district on Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Parmanand Sinha, who was elected from ward number 22 in Barh.

According to the police, the incident took place around 7 am near Old Godown in Bazaar Samiti when the councilor went to buy vegetables from the crowded market. Armed miscreants on a bicycle shot the victim in the head and managed to flee the scene.

The locals couldn't understand because of the rush, but when Parmanand fell to the ground and started bleeding profusely, people rushed to his aid. On being informed, the local police rushed to the spot and sent the body to Barh ward hospital for autopsy.

Barh SHO Dhananjay Kumar said police recovered a country-made pistol and two live cartridges from the body. "It was not clear how many criminals committed the crime because no one heard the shot due to the noise in the market. The miscreants could have shot the councilor in the head at close range, resulting in his death on the spot," he said." he said.

The SHO told the incident appears to have been carried out due to a property dispute or political rivalry.
